Precision Plating offers the largest range of electroplated decorative finishes in Australia. This interactive selector details the name and some brief comments of most of the finishes we have.

The quality of the finish is also highly dependant on the surface of the metal or plastic you are plating on. Plating will not fill cracks in metals or cover large pitted surfaces. If you want a highly reflective finish, the surface must be highly polished before plating.

Precision plating has a state-of-the-art plastics plating facility. The plant is fully automated and computer controlled to ensure that your parts receive the exact plating specification every single time.

Plastics plating requires precise controls and checks and is much more involved than plating on metals. An automated plant enables reliable plating and precise time control in the tanks that each part goes through.

We can plate a range of finishes on plastic which include chrome, satin chrome, satin pearl, gold, black chrome and black sapphire.

Types of Plastic That Can Be Plated

To enable plating to adhere onto plastic, you need a special type of plastic. Generally, the type used is electroplating grade Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). If you have plastics that are nylon or contain polycarbonate, please speak to a technical representative from Precision Plating.

Plastic parts generally need to have purpose built racks. This is to ensure they are held in the right place and they don’t warp or bend in the process.

For fast, efficient and friendly service, please contact us for all your plating on plastic requirements.

In order to get the best possible finish, you need to understand the type of metal you have, and adjust your process accordingly. Metals such as stainless steel undergo very different processes to say zinc diecast.

At Precision Plating, we have the capability to plate the following metals:

Brass

Bronze

Copper

Steel

Stainless Steel

Zinc Die-cast

Pewter

Most other precious metals

Please note: we are unable to plate on raw aluminum unless it is already chrome or copper plated.

A typical part can go through up to 20 different tanks in the process of transforming it from a base metal to your required finish.

For Example chrome plating a part will include the following processes:

polishing

soak cleaning

activating

copper plate

nickel plating

chrome plating

Specifications

If you don’t have a plating specification, please advise us what application your part will be used for. We can then determine what will suit the part best. Different applications require different plating specifications. An exterior automotive grille generally requires a duplex nickel coating compared to an interior cabinet handle.

The more information you can provide us, the better the result, and the more accurate your quotation will be.

Copies of the Surface Finishing Industry Standards may be obtained from
SAI Global, the distributors of Australian Standards.
